About me #
I wrote my first line of code in 1989. My experience spans DOS scripting to modern applications: cloud-native, on-premise, & hybrid. I've developed, maintained, and operated many design patterns & system architectures.
Before starting Redwood Consulting I worked mostly in engineering, but also in academia and sales/customer roles. I've worked with pre-seed startups and enterprises including Google, Microsoft, Square, Gusto, and others. Check out my LinkedIn for more.
I graduated with Bachelor & Master of Science degrees in Computer Science from Stanford University, and a Bachelor of the Arts in Philosophy. The formal education gave me abstractions, new ways to think about what it means to write software or even approach problems.
I am certified with Google Cloud and a recognized Google Cloud Expert. I am also experienced with AWS and Azure. I write and give talks about software. My piece The 80% Abstraction (a method for simplifying large monoliths) is among the most applauded posts on the Gusto Engineering blog.
I live in Oakland, California with my partner, child, and cats. I train in & teach Seido Karate, holding a 2nd degree black belt.
